My brother Robert calls in from his basement, where he was on flood watch, on the lookout for mysterious bubbling spring water emerging out of the ground. We reminisce about being “on the job” with the Vacaville Fire Department and look at photographs from his brief visit to Obama, Japan.

This page contains technical instructions on updating a theme for use with widgets. Many themes can be updated in five to ten minutes. Others will take an hour or two to get all of the kinks worked out. Some will look awful no matter what you do. This document assumes basic PHP editing skills, though you probably won’t have to write any code of your own.
Star Wars Storyboards
I’ve always been a huge fan of movie storyboards, with their ability to see into the future in some respect… to visualize this entire range of motion and events in a single, quickly sketched frame. I’d like to incorporate their aesthetic into my software design work more, perhaps as a part of user stories or some other aspect of the development process.
This image is from a collection on Flickr of a number of early storyboards from the first Star Wars film.

Design/ers for Obama was created when Design Observer essentially asked the question, “how can graphic designers best support Barack Obama?” Our answer ended up extending the question to cover visual communicators at all levels. In addition to supporting Obama for America we jumped at the opportunity to bring the spirit of grassroots style organizing and collaboration to poster design which, to us, meant not only forming communal bonds but sharing the fruits of our efforts equally and in such a way that anyone can enjoy and benefit from (because most of us do not own our own printing presses).
