  • It has been a quarter month since state-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) launched its third generation(3G) mobile service – first of its kind in India. Initially the services was rolled out across 12 cities across the country. BSNL plans to extend 3G network across 700 cities in India by the end of June, 09. Under the 3G services BSNL would offer services like broadband, mobile TV, video-on-demand, music downloads, video downloads, video tones, instant messaging, online gaming, bill payment etc. Moreover, now you can upload anything to internet cloud, as 3G is a media to access internet cloud.   • The Apache Cassandra Project develops a highly scalable second-generation distributed database, bringing together Dynamo's fully distributed design and Bigtable's ColumnFamily-based data model.

    Cassandra was open sourced by Facebook in 2008, where it was designed by one of the authors of Dynamo. In a lot of ways you can think of Cassandra as Dynamo 2.0. Cassandra is in production use at Rackspace, Digg, and a number of other companies, but is still under heavy development.
