Akvo's work is safety critical. A leak through which money escapes without doing good harms somebody's health and is a statistical risk of death. This is a harsh statement of the problem, but in the event that "wired aid" programs like Akvo or Kiva wind up discredited because of rampant fraud, a lot of people are going to suffer. It is therefore imperative that the integrity of the business process is maintained.

Members of the XML Schema Working Group include representatives from the Minnesota Office of Revisor of Statutes, XMaLpha Technologies, and Thomson Reuters. This working group was created out of discussions in a Minnesota Partners meeting, who felt that creating an XML schema would be beneficial.
